RALLY AGAINST THE AUSTERITY MEASURES
The 2013 May Day protests took place worldwide and involved hundreds of thousands of people, demanding a government reform against the ongoing global economic crisis including austerity measures and poor working conditions. In the debt-laden euro zone countries of Spain, Greece, Italy and France tens of thousands of people took to the streets to demand jobs and an end to years of belt-tightening. Thousands of demonstrators protested across Portugal against salary cuts and public sector reforms imposed by the government, calling for an end to austerity dictated by Portugal’s EU/IMF bailout, a day after the government said there would be more spending cuts. Rallies were held in more than a dozen cities around Europe.
